A woman teacher at a school in Naupada, Thane, has been booked for allegedly hitting a student, resulting in head injuries, according to a police official.

In the morning, numerous parents along with activists from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) protested at the school, demanding action against the teacher.

Following a complaint from the victim's parents, the teacher was booked under sections 115(2) and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, stated a Naupada police official.

However, no arrests have been made so far, the police added.

Protesting parents allege that the teacher regularly abused students and incited them to ostracize their peers. Despite previous complaints, the school management failed to act, said Thane-Palghar MNS chief Avinash Jadhav.

On Thursday, the school management barred the teacher from entering the premises and wrote to the education department seeking her suspension and further action. PTI has obtained a copy of the letter.

Footage showing angry parents and MNS activists entering the school has gone viral on social media.
