In a commendable achievement, Jadavpur University (JU) has secured the second position in the state public university ranking, as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Bhaskar Gupta, the officiating Vice-Chancellor, expressed happiness despite the institution's extended lack of a permanent vice chancellor.
Gupta attributed JU's success to overcoming various adversities, including an inability to appoint teachers or make key administrative decisions. Such challenges, however, did not deter the varsity from its pursuit of academic excellence in research and academic activities. He mentioned the significant role played by the alumni association in supporting the cash-strapped university.
Additionally, JU dropped from fourth to ninth place in the overall university category this year. Gupta indicated the need for an analysis to understand the parameters that led to the decline. Two other autonomous colleges in the state, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College and St. Xavier's College, also performed admirably in the NIRF rankings.
