Government Initiates Measures to Curb Student Suicides

The government has intensified efforts to curb student suicides, stated Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar on Monday, noting that 1.2% involved examination failures.
Addressing concerns about suicides in coaching hub Kota, Majumdar explained various steps taken by both central and state governments.
"Several initiatives have been implemented to address student suicides. According to NCRB data, only 1.2% of suicides are linked to exam failures," Majumdar conveyed to the House.
Amid the discussion managed by Jagadambika Pal in the absence of Speaker Om Birla, Majumdar outlined the Union education ministry's 'Manodarpan' initiative providing psychological support to students and mentioned Rajasthan's extensive efforts, including guidelines enforced by district administration and psychological counsellors. A toll-free helpline has been established and 10,000 hostel gatekeepers trained to spot mental health issues, underlined Majumdar. The 'Dinner with DM' initiative also invites students to interact with district officials.
