Boosting Science and Technology: Multifaceted Strategies for India's Future
Professor Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay emphasized the need for multifaceted strategies to bolster science and technology research in India during the 12th convocation of IIITDM Kancheepuram. Highlighting India's rise in the Global Innovation Index and the importance of frugal innovation, Bandyopadhyay called for deeper and wider technological development and increased women participation in STEM fields.

Professor Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director of the Indian Statistical Institute and Padma Shri recipient, stressed the necessity for multifaceted strategies to enhance science and technology research in India during the 12th convocation of IIITDM Kancheepuram.
India has significantly advanced in the Global Innovation Index, moving from 81st in 2015 to 40th in 2022, with frugal innovation playing a key role in this progress, Bandyopadhyay remarked. However, he pointed out the challenge of producing high-quality products on a large scale at low costs.
Bandyopadhyay highlighted the vital role IIITDM plays in fostering a skilled workforce proficient in modern IT tools and emphasized the need for increased women participation in STEM fields to achieve inclusive growth. The convocation ceremony saw 509 graduands receiving their degrees, including Ph.D., Dual Degrees, M.Tech, and B.Tech recipients.
