Jadavpur University Faces New Ragging Allegations

A first-year post-graduate student of Jadavpur University was hospitalized after being accused of laptop theft in a hostel. This incident follows the death of another student last year due to ragging. The university and state authorities are probing the case, with accusations of assault being investigated.

Another ragging incident has surfaced at Jadavpur University, a top educational institution in Kolkata, India. A first-year post-graduate student of Computer Engineering was hospitalized after being accused of stealing a laptop by fellow hostel inmates.

According to an official source, the student—residing in the boys' hostel—fell ill when confronted by other boarders. 'The student was not physically assaulted but was accused of theft,' noted the official. The university administration and local authorities are currently looking into the incident.

The student's parents rushed to the university from Purulia upon hearing the news. 'Our son was accused and possibly assaulted. We demand a thorough investigation,' they stated. JU Registrar Snehamanju Basu assured that all allegations would be thoroughly examined. This controversy follows a similar tragic event in August when a first-year undergraduate student died due to ragging, sparking protests and leading to the arrest of five students.
