The Bombay High Court has refused to grant any relief to a student who failed to submit his admission form to a science institute within the prescribed deadline, despite his high rank. The court emphasized that participation in the admission process cannot be allowed based solely on a good rank.

A division bench of Justices A S Chandurkar and Rajesh Patil stated that relief cannot be granted merely out of sympathy, as this would cause injustice to other students. The court was hearing a plea filed by Siddhant Rane who sought admission to the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, for a Bachelor of Science (Research) programme.

Rane's application was deemed ineligible because it was submitted after the deadline. Although the institute had extended the deadline once, Rane's submission was still beyond the final date. Despite his high ranking in the IISER Aptitude Test, the court ruled that he could not be permitted to participate as it would undermine the integrity of the admission process.
