The Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati) announced on Sunday that it is currently undertaking 698 research and consultancy projects on various topics, with a total investment of Rs 389 crore.

At its 26th convocation ceremony, the premier institute conferred degrees on 2,150 students across multiple disciplines. This cohort included 277 PhD scholars, 941 post-graduate students, and 932 undergraduate degree holders.

Among the notable awardees, Rethyam Gupta received the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal for the academic year 2023-24 in Engineering Physics, while Vedant Gaurang Shah of Computer Science and Engineering received the President of India Gold Medal. Arpita Ray was awarded the Governor of Assam PG Gold Medal for her MTech in Geotechnical Engineering, and Pranshu Kandoi, a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering, received the Governor of Assam UG Gold Medal.

IIT-Guwahati Director Devendra Jalihal, presenting the convocation report, highlighted the institute's achievements in tech transfer, patent filings, and high-quality research publications, emphasizing the innovative spirit of its graduates. He noted that over its 30-year history, the institute has produced more than 22,600 graduates and continues to attract talented students from across the country and internationally.

Sridhar Vembu, founder and CEO of Zoho Corporation, delivered the convocation address, stressing the importance of indigenizing technology by proactively addressing challenges and fostering a culture of creativity and resilience.
