Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh on Friday emphasized the seriousness of paper leaks in various competitive exams, calling for urgent structural reforms in the examination system to avert such irregularities.

Singh urged the Centre to take stringent action against those involved in 'rigging' exams, expressing optimism that the ongoing CBI inquiry into the alleged paper leaks of NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams will be fruitful.

He described the presence of criminal gangs attempting to leak exam papers as a significant issue that needs immediate attention. Singh believes the government's current efforts will yield positive results and instill fear among such criminals.

While commenting on the issue, Singh noted that broader reforms in the examination process are essential, stressing that action should not be limited to irregularities in one or two exams. He asserted that the Centre faces a pivotal challenge in eradicating these elements.

The situation of NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams, currently under investigation, highlights the critical need for these reforms. The National Testing Agency, responsible for conducting these exams, has rescheduled some exams following the leaks. In response, the Centre has formed a seven-member panel, led by former ISRO chief R Radhakrishnan, to recommend enhancements in the examination system and data security protocols.

Singh also highlighted that the delay in CUET-UG results has affected admissions in numerous central universities, including Delhi University, causing disruption to their academic calendars.
