NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar on Monday urged the Maharashtra government to enact legislation to curb paper leaks in public examinations, mirroring the new law adopted by the Centre. Pawar, along with a delegation of NCP members, met Governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhavan to press this demand.

''We have been advocating for a law akin to the Central Act to prevent unfair means in public exams in Maharashtra, similar to the initiative taken by the Uttarakhand Governor,'' Pawar told the media. He further urged Bais to either direct the state government to adopt such a law or take the lead himself.

This demand arises in the wake of allegations concerning the NEET and UGC NET exams. The Centre's stringent Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, recently operationalized, penalizes offenders with a maximum jail term of 10 years and fines up to Rs 1 crore.
