In a significant shake-up, the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), Subodh Singh, has been removed from his position amid a furor over claimed irregularities in the NEET and NET examinations.

Until a permanent replacement is identified, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) Chairman and Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola will assume additional responsibility for the NTA. 'NTA DG has been put on compulsory wait in the Department of Personnel and Training. Pradeep Singh Kharola has been assigned additional charge of NTA DG till further orders,' a senior official stated.

The decision has led to the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam as allegations surface of paper leaks in NEET-UG, prompting demands for its cancellation as well.
