Mumbai Trans Harbour Line commences work on pre-cast segment

In a major development, MMRDA said the pre-casting work for the first segment of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Line (MTHL) has commenced from Wednesday. "Indias longest Sea Bridge - Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project has started taking shape. The project has reached a significant milestone by the initiation of the first casting taking place at Sewri," the authority said in a tweet.
It said the activity of pre-segment casting for bridge deck construction began from August 7. Each segment of the viaduct would be more than 75 tonnes with over 10,000 such segments will be cast. The project has been divided into three packages.
Package 1 and 3 will be executed by a consortium of L&T and IHI, Japan, and involves construction from land to the sea. Package 2 involves the portion in the middle of the creek and will be constructed by a consortium of Daewoo and Tata Projects.
The 22-km long Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project will provide direct access to Navi Mumbai, New International Airport and will also afford convenient gateway to Pune Expressway and further to Southern India. The entire project has been estimated to cost around Rs 17,843 crore. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will cover 80 per cent of the construction cost for the project..
