Tanzania has officially sold gold worth USD 14 million (around 32 billion Tanzanian shillings) in one month in recently opened gold trading centres.

Tanzania Information Services has released a statement quoting the Minister for Minerals, Dotto Biseko saying the gold was sold in 21 new gold trading centres across the East African country in one month.

Biseko expressed optimism that the selling of gold in the newly established gold trading centres will gain momentum and subsequently help enhance the country's economic growth, the statement revealed, as reported by Xinhua.

John Magufuli, the President of Tanzania ordered regional commissioners in regions producing minerals to open trading centres in April. "The mineral trading centers help in curbing smuggling of gold out of the country," the East African country’s Head of State Magufuli said.
