Rwanda was accused on March 1 by Uganda for blocking goods trucks and other vehicles from entering the country. Currently, new reports state that Rwanda has commenced allowing trucks to one of the main crossing points on their shared border, as revealed by the government of Uganda.
The flow of cargo traffic has been eased at Mirama Hills, one of the three main border crossings between the countries, as revealed by the spokesperson of Ugandan government, Ofwono Opondo. “Uganda will review allegations of arbitrary detentions of Rwandese which authorities in Kigali have cited as one the reasons for stopping the country's nationals from coming to Uganda,” Opondo opined.
“Specific cases raised on alleged arbitrary arrests or detentions shall be handled through normal diplomatic channels,” he revealed over Twitter. Whereas, two other crossings including the busy Katuna border post remain closed.
According to Today Online, Rwanda depends on much of its import on a trade route through Uganda to Kenya's Indian Ocean seaport of Mombasa.
