Beleaguered telecom operator Vodafone Idea has surprised the market with a consolidated net profit of Rs 51,970 crore for the March quarter of FY2025-26, marking its first profit in six years. This turnaround is largely attributed to relief in statutory liabilities, as per company filings.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) revealed that AGR dues for Vodafone Idea were pegged at Rs 87,695 crore as of December 2025. Following a reassessment, the due was adjusted to Rs 64,046 crore for FY 2006-07 to FY 2018-19 as of the same date.

Consequently, Vodafone Idea's financial liability was revised, leading to the derecognition of Rs 80,502 crore and recognition of Rs 24,880 crore as the present value of future payments. These changes have resulted in a net credit to the profit and loss statement, steering the company towards an annual profit of Rs 34,552 crore for FY2026.
