The Commerce & Transport Department, led by NBS Rajput, emphasized the mandatory use of life jackets and comprehensive safety checks across the state’s inland waters.

Following a devastating incident where a cruise capsized at Bargi Dam in Jabalpur, killing at least 12, the Odisha government has tightened safety protocols for all vessels. This measure aims to prevent future tragedies in the state's inland waters.
Odisha's Commerce & Transport Department Principal Secretary NBS Rajput convened a high-level meeting to discuss the safety measures. Officials emphasized the importance of wearing life jackets and carrying necessary safety equipment like lifebuoys and fire extinguishers.
The government provides life safety equipment heavily subsidized to ensure widespread availability. Regular surprise checks will occur, and strict action will be taken against operators violating safety norms.
