Bharat Taxi: India’s First Cooperative Ride-Hailing Platform Debuts

Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched Bharat Taxi, India's first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform. Initially rolled out in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, it promises nationwide expansion within two years. Operates on a zero-commission model, profits split directly with drivers, emphasizing social security benefits.

In a significant development for India's transportation sector, Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah unveiled 'Bharat Taxi', the country's inaugural cooperative-based ride-hailing service. The platform, which operated successfully in a two-month pilot, currently serves Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, with plans for national expansion within two years.

'Bharat Taxi' aims to challenge existing market giants such as Uber and Ola by offering a zero-commission, surge-free pricing model. The initiative, registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, stands apart by ensuring direct profit distribution among the driver-owners, coined 'Sarathis'.

Backed by eight major cooperative organizations, the platform has already onboarded over 3 lakh drivers and completed more than 10,000 rides daily since its pilot phase. By prioritizing drivers' social security, including health and accident insurance, Bharat Taxi sets a new benchmark in the ride-hailing industry.
