On Thursday, three empty goods wagons from a New Modified Goods (NMG) rake derailed near Tambaram Yard, according to Southern Railway officials. Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties reported. The incident occurred at 18:52 hours while the wagons were being shifted.
Southern Railway reassured commuters that the derailment will not impact the services of suburban and express trains. The involved wagons were the 8th, 9th, and 10th in the sequence of the rake, which was empty at the time of the derailment.
Following the derailment, railway officials promptly visited the site to assess the situation and initiated restoration work immediately. Efforts are currently in full swing to address the situation efficiently and ensure the yard is cleared without delay.
