Government Initiatives Transforming the Lives of Railway Porters

The government is making strides in enhancing the welfare of railway porters, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Addressing the Lok Sabha, he highlighted various benefits provided to these workers, such as complimentary travel passes, concessional tickets, and free educational facilities for their children.
Congress MP Murari Lal Meena questioned the government about plans to include porters under the Minimum Wages Act and whether they have access to health schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Minister Vaishnaw detailed the facilities offered, including complimentary travel and supply of uniforms.
Additionally, Vaishnaw elaborated on medical provisions and efforts to enhance rest areas for porters. The government encourages porters to utilize schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan and various insurance policies, aiming to uplift their socio-economic status.
