The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is undergoing a significant transformation, announcing cuts of about 10,000 full-time jobs and the closure of half its regional offices. Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. unveiled the changes, explaining they are designed to better align the department with its core mission.

This move is part of a broader effort to reduce federal bureaucracy, backed by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk's cost-cutting initiative. The overhaul will affect several agencies within the department but is structured to spare critical functions like inspections and regulatory reviews.

In addition to staff reductions, the department plans to consolidate 28 existing units into 15 new divisions, streamlining operations and creating a new 'Administration for a Healthy America' to centralize various health and safety offices.
