Karnataka's Milk Price Surge: A Farmers' Relief

Milk prices in Karnataka are poised for a significant rise, set to increase by Rs 4 per litre starting April 1, as announced by State Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna. This move is a direct response to lobbying by milk federations and agricultural communities.
Minister Rajanna revealed that the milk federation initially requested a Rs 5 increase per litre, but the government settled on a Rs 4 hike, ensuring that the entire additional amount benefits farmers. This decision aligns with other recent adjustments in public transportation costs and energy expenses, signaling a broader trend of economic recalibration in the state.
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), under the Nandini brand, has a history of adapting pricing and quantities to market demands. In 2024, KMF adjusted prices by Rs 2 per packet, increasing the packet size by 50 ml. As of now, Nandini toned milk is being sold at Rs 44 for a 1,050 ml packet.
