Unidentified miscreants targeted a Vande Bharat Express train traveling to Rourkela from Puri by hurling stones, officials reported on Wednesday. The attack resulted in damage to the window panes of one coach, though fortunately, no passengers sustained injuries.
The incident occurred near Kalunga village, approximately 5 km from Rourkela station in Sundergarh district. Coach number 3 of the train suffered damage to two of its window panes due to the stone-pelting.
The train was forced to halt temporarily at Kalunga, allowing Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force officers, along with technical staff, to assess the scene. The damaged window panes were temporarily repaired with tape before the train continued toward Rourkela, ultimately arriving about 30 minutes behind its scheduled time. An investigation into the assault is currently in progress.
