The Maharashtra government's decision to scrap the proposed 6% tax on electric vehicles costing more than Rs 30 lakh marks a significant policy shift aimed at encouraging clean transportation. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made the announcement, indicating that the tax would not generate substantial revenue and might hinder the state's push for electric mobility.

During a session in the legislative council, sparked by concerns raised by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab, Fadnavis detailed the state's dedication to becoming a leader in EV adoption. He emphasized the growth of manufacturing plants in Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and stressed the environmental benefits of transitioning from conventional vehicles.

The infrastructural development underway includes expanding a robust electric vehicle charging network across Maharashtra. With over 50% of new vehicle registrations being EVs and a significant increase in electric buses in public transport, the state's commitment to reducing air pollution through clean energy initiatives is evident.
