Nitin Gadkari, India's Minister for Road Transport & Highways, made a bold statement on Tuesday, predicting that Indian roads will exceed U.S. standards within the next two years. He emphasized transformative changes in the road sector and expressed optimism about surpassing the U.S. in several transportation areas.
Speaking at the Times Drive Auto Summit and Awards 2025, Gadkari highlighted recent advancements and projected that India would also lead in electric vehicle adoption and manufacturing within five years. He assured that major cities like Delhi, Dehradun, and Bengaluru will witness significantly reduced travel times due to improved infrastructure.
The Union Minister emphasized India's open market for competition, inviting global players like Tesla to enter and thrive. He highlighted ongoing government efforts to reduce logistics costs, currently at 14-16%, aiming to bring them into single digits and enhance India's global competitiveness. Plans to construct a 60-kilometer road network daily illustrate Gadkari's ambitious vision.
