The Delhi government is set to launch digital travel cards for women, replacing the current pink tickets used for free rides in state-run buses. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced this forward-looking measure on Tuesday, intending to tackle corruption within the ticketing process.
In her 2025-26 Budget presentation, Gupta, who also manages the finance portfolio, allocated Rs 12,952 crore to enhance transport in the capital. She emphasized the introduction of digital travel cards as a step towards a more transparent and efficient system.
Beyond the technological upgrade, Gupta's budget outlines plans to increase Delhi's electric bus fleet to over 5,000 by 2025-26. This modernization aims to set a new standard for public transportation in the city, significantly funded by the 2024-25 allocation and additional central government support.
