The Railway Board has announced decisive measures to curb prolonged tenures in key positions across its 17 zones, aiming to uphold integrity and transparency within the organization. A recent circular mandates that both gazetted and non-gazetted staff in sensitive roles of traffic and commercial departments now serve a maximum of three years.
Specifically, the Board emphasized that officers such as the secretary to the Principal Commercial Operations Manager (PCOM) and the Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM) must demonstrate 'impeccable integrity.' Hence, they are subject to enforced rotational policies. This move is designed to prevent entrenchment and promote accountability.
In addition to gazetted officers, the directive affects non-gazetted staff working in roles like traffic inspector to PCOM and commercial inspector to PCCM, underscoring the value placed on rotational transparency. These changes, which must be fully implemented by April 30, 2025, reflect a strategic effort to enhance ethical governance across the railway sectors.
