The Vijayawada Division of the South Central Railway Zone has achieved a significant milestone by commissioning 206.29 route kilometers of Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) within the financial year 2024-25. This advancement marks a pivotal moment in railway modernization, aimed at improving operational efficiency and safety.

In a bid to enhance infrastructure and streamline operations, the ABS network now integrates 30 stations, seven interlocked level crossing gates, 14 ABS huts, 231 mid-section signals, and 364 km of optical fiber cable. These developments are set to improve train punctuality, increase line capacity, and reduce detention times at major junctions like Rajahmundry and Nidadavolu.

Divisional Railway Manager Narendra A Patil highlighted that this advanced system will significantly bolster operational efficiency and passenger safety. Future expansions include ABS networks in the Vijayawada-Gudur section, aiming to further ease congestion and improve railway services along critical routes.
