Delhi Unveils Ambitious FY26 Budget with Focus on Development and Transparency

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented a ground-breaking Rs one lakh crore FY26 Budget, highlighting ten key areas including infrastructure, economic empowerment of women, and pollution control. This marked the BJP-led government's inaugural budget in Delhi after a 26-year gap, following their electoral win over the Aam Aadmi Party.
Gupta announced an emphasis on infrastructure by doubling capital expenditure to Rs 28,000 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year. A significant portion is allocated to cleaning the Yamuna River, with Rs 500 crore sanctioned for sewage treatment upgrades. The health sector also sees a substantial Rs 6,874 crore funding, focusing on wellness centers and nutritional support for expecting mothers.
The budget sets aside Rs 1,000 crore for improved transport links and Rs 12,952 crore for the transport sector overall. A major cultural initiative includes hosting an 'International Film Festival'. On the social front, Rs 5,100 crore supports women's welfare, while new education reforms aim to uplift the city's education system. A 'Global Investment Summit' and new industrial policies are part of efforts to boost economic growth.
