In a significant development, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has been named the convenor of the Group of Ministers (GoM) tasked with analyzing GST revenue. This designation was confirmed during the GST Council's 55th meeting held in December 2024 in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

The reconstituted GoM will focus on state-wise GST revenue trends, identify sector-specific patterns, and review issues that might require policy changes. The team includes key figures such as Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and other finance ministers from Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.

Crucially, the group is expected to assess the impact of macroeconomic policies on GST revenue, specifically addressing challenges in agrarian and smaller states. They are also tasked with recommending measures to harmonize compliance tools and suggest policy interventions to boost revenue, particularly in states facing high shortfalls.
