On Monday, an Air India flight set to journey from New Delhi to Bengaluru made an unexpected stop in Chennai. According to an airline official, the diversion followed ''operational reasons on the runway'' at Kempegowda International Airport.
Flight AI2415, which departed from Delhi at 9.55 am, was scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru by 12.50 pm. However, it made an unscheduled detour to Chennai where it was refueled before resuming its flight to Bengaluru at 1.38 pm.
A source from Bangalore International Airport Limited clarified that the diversion was due to a routine maintenance notice affecting the south runway, issued every Monday. The northern runway's operations require pilots with specific certifications.
