In a strategic bid to regain public support, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced a cabinet reshuffle, appointing key figures to finance, transport, and other ministries. This move follows intense public outrage over the tragic 2023 train crash that resulted in 57 fatalities, mostly students.

The reshuffle marks the second since the government secured re-election in 2023, reflecting continued political pressure after Greece's largest protests in years. Despite surviving a no-confidence vote recently, Mitsotakis' administration has been critically affected in opinion polls.

Among the appointees is Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the new finance minister, previously known for leading state digital transformation efforts. Meanwhile, Christos Dimas, as the new transport minister, faces the challenge of modernizing the neglected railway system. Mitsotakis also aims for environmental advancement with strategic appointments in environment and energy sectors.
