Cab drivers in Telangana, under the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers' Union, have initiated a boycott against the 'low fares' offered by major cab aggregators for airport trips. The protest focuses on the inadequate compensation for drivers, with companies reportedly charging as little as Rs 300–Rs 400 per ride.
According to TGPWU founder-president Shaik Salauddin, the campaign began two days ago and quickly gained momentum. Despite state government directives setting the fare for prepaid cabs at Rs 21 per kilometer, significant discrepancies remain between aggregator and standard taxi services, affecting drivers' earnings.
Salauddin emphasized the need for government intervention to establish fair pricing standards. Drivers are also frustrated by extended waiting times at the airport for return passengers. He has urged authorities to ensure uniform and equitable pricing for aggregator services.
