In a tragic turn of events, a bus accident in Johannesburg has claimed the lives of at least 12 people and left 45 injured. Emergency services reported the bus overturned on a highway near the city's O.R. Tambo International Airport.
According to William Nthladi, a spokesperson for Ekurhuleni Emergency Management, crews are working hard to lift the bus and check if any victims remain trapped. The bus, transporting individuals from Katlehong township, was found lying on its side near the highway's edge.
Nine men and three women died at the scene, and two bodies are reportedly still trapped. With questions lingering about the cause of the crash, police have launched an investigation as the driver and other victims receive medical care.
