Russian forces have ramped up their offensive near Pokrovsk, a strategic city in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, with the aim of bypassing it to disrupt vital supply routes for Ukrainian troops. The city's capture could severely impact Ukraine's military operations on the eastern front and potentially allow Russian forces to push their front line further west.

According to Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for Ukraine's Khortytsia group, Pokrovsk has experienced 34 attacks in the last 24 hours. Russian troops are trying to breach Ukrainian defenses by focusing efforts on the southern outskirts of the city. Home to Ukraine's only coking coal supplier, Pokrovsk previously had a population of around 60,000, although estimates suggest that only 11,000 residents remain.

Trehubov elaborated that the Russian strategy involves dispatching small units to settlements south of Pokrovsk to avoid intense urban combat. By doing so, they aim to sever logistics chains. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces are utilizing drones and precision-guided weapons in their efforts to thwart Russian advancements.
