Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has defended the recent decision to increase government bus fares by 15%, citing the need for salary adjustments for transport staff. He criticized the BJP's opposition to the hike, pointing out their similar actions in 2020 while in power.
During a press conference, Reddy explained that the four major transport corporations had been advocating for fare increases to cope with rising costs. The decision was formalized in a cabinet meeting, Reddy stated, ensuring financial stability for the transport sector.
The minister highlighted that while diesel costs and operational expenses have surged, a significant debt was inherited from the previous BJP administration. Reddy also dismissed BJP's criticism of the Shakti scheme, accusing them of resisting efforts for women's empowerment.
