Bodoland Territorial Council Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro inaugurated the Northeast's largest Eri silk spinning plant, an ambitious project located in Assam's Baksa district. Constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 15 crore, the plant is set to transform the region's textile industry.
The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) developed the facility, which occupies an area of 12,916 square feet within the Integrated Textile Park at Kharuajan in Mushalpur. With 960 ring frame spindles, the plant boasts a production capacity of 450 kg daily, promising a significant impact on the local economy.
Addressing the public, CEM Boro emphasized the project's role in enhancing rural livelihoods, particularly for women traditionally engaged in Eri silk work. He also highlighted the ongoing challenges in cocoon rearing and machinery shortages but expressed confidence that modern technology could overcome these obstacles, thereby providing substantial employment for the state's rural youth.
