With the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 drawing near, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is undertaking massive preparations to ensure seamless communication for millions of devotees and visitors in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Upgrades to telecom infrastructure are slated across the city, the mela grounds, and key public spaces.

To enhance connectivity throughout Prayagraj, the DoT has laid 126 kilometers of optical fiber cable and installed 328 new telecom towers. Alongside, 575 new Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) units have been set up, and 1,462 existing ones upgraded, offering robust network services during this massive gathering.

In the mela vicinity, which is poised for unprecedented crowds, citizens will benefit from 192 kilometers of optical fiber. Additionally, 78 temporary towers and 150 small cell solutions will cater to the communication needs in highly congested areas, aided by 352 new BTS units and upgrades to 50 others.

Further optimizing telecom operations, significant enhancements are expected at major transport hubs and high-traffic areas, including the Green Corridor. Fifty-three help desks, established across the mela grounds, aim to address potential communication issues, including fraud reports and lost mobile concerns.

Moreover, three disaster management centers have been set up at the site. Operated by all major telecom providers, including Airtel, BSNL, Jio, and Vi, these centers will ensure efficient responses during crises, bolstered by adherence to electromagnetic radiation safety norms.

The Mahakumbh Mela is a vital spiritual event drawing millions globally. With preparation overseen by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, tent cities and safety measures are being established. The festival kicks off on January 13, 2025, featuring three main bathing festivals anticipated to draw the largest crowds.
