In a significant boost to social security, October saw the addition of 17.80 lakh new employees under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Scheme, according to provisional payroll data shared by the Minister of Labour and Employment.
The ESI Scheme, a critical social security program, extends benefits to employees and their families, with 21,588 new establishments joining the initiative in October 2024, thereby broadening its reach and ensuring coverage for more workers. Analyzing the figures year-on-year, there's been a 3% rise in net registrations compared to October the previous year.
The data reveals that of the total new registrants, a significant 47.75% or 8.50 lakh employees are aged up to 25 years. Furthermore, gender-specific analysis indicates that enrolment of female members stands at 3.52 lakh. Impressively, 42 transgender individuals also joined the ESI scheme in October 2024, underscoring ESIC's dedication to inclusivity for all societal groups.
