The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a firm stance on enhancing road safety standards. On Wednesday, it directed contractors to strictly follow the established guidelines for the installation of Metal Beam Crash Barriers (MBCB) along the country's extensive network of national highways.
A statement from NHAI emphasized that contractors and concessionaires must ensure crash barrier materials conform to the crash test reports' precise specifications. Furthermore, these safety structures should be installed with strict adherence to the manufacturers' prescribed installation methodologies.
In addition to these requirements, the NHAI stressed the importance of ensuring the desired level of ground layer compaction on all projects. Such measures, according to the body, will not only boost contractors' accountability for delivering quality projects but will also significantly enhance the safety of highway users nationwide.
