The Indian government has selected logistics aggregator Shiprocket and air cargo handler Cargo Service Centre (CSC) to pilot e-commerce export hubs. A senior official reported that these hubs are set to be developed around Delhi airport, with operations commencing in February next year.
Announcing the project, Director General of Foreign Trade Santosh Kumar Sarangi stressed that the initiative will feature facilities for expedited customs and security clearances, as well as quality and certifying agencies. Additionally, an easy re-import policy will be implemented to facilitate the return of goods without import duties.
The government aims to gather feedback from these pilot hubs and anticipate crafting detailed guidelines to expand the network nationwide. The potential benefits are substantial, with estimates predicting significant growth in India's e-commerce exports, possibly reaching over USD 100 billion by 2030.
