In a bid to elevate India's trade prominence on the global stage, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has recommended transforming the India Trade Promotion Organisation's (ITPO) flagship trade fair into a bi-annual event. Presently conducted annually each November, the fair will now emphasize India's domestic 'swadeshi' strength under the Atmanirbhar Bharat theme.
The initiative aims to boost India's engagement with global markets, with potential new venues across the United States, Europe, Japan, Korea, and the Middle East. Goyal's vision includes organizing significant trade exhibitions like Bharat Tex and World Food Fair, thereby fostering large-scale international recognition and participation.
Further, plans are underway for infrastructure expansions, notably enhancing the Bharat Mandapam and establishing additional sites in Noida, Lucknow, and Varanasi. This expansion reflects a commitment to turning ITPO into a truly pan-Indian, world-class trade facilitator.
