In a concerning incident at the Bhilai Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India (SAIL), located in Chhattisgarh's Durg district, three contractual workers fell ill after exposure to a poisonous gas leak.
Officials reported that the leak occurred around 2 pm during capital repair work at Blast Furnace Number 6, causing the workers to become unconscious. They were swiftly transported to Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Hospital in Bhilai for treatment in the ICU.
One worker remains in critical condition as investigations continue to determine the cause of the leak. The incident raises critical questions about safety standards in India's largest public sector steel manufacturing operation.
