Canon (www.Canon-CNA.com) has announced upcoming firmware updates, launching in December 2024, for seven of its Cinema EOS and professional video cameras. These updates, available at no cost, introduce an array of advanced features developed based on customer feedback. The firmware will benefit the EOS R5 C, EOS C70, EOS C80, EOS C300 Mark III, EOS C400, EOS C500 Mark II, and XF605, with enhancements that cater to professional needs in video production, remote collaboration, and camera flexibility.
Frame.io Cloud Integration for Remote Workflows
With the new update, Canon’s EOS C80 and EOS C400 models will support Adobe’s Frame.io Camera to Cloud (C2C) functionality, making it easier for content creators to upload proxy files directly from the camera to Frame.io over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. This enables immediate access to footage for post-production editing and colour grading, enhancing the efficiency of remote workflows and collaboration.
Expanded 6K RAW Recording on the EOS C80
The firmware upgrade also brings expanded 6K recording capabilities to the EOS C80, allowing external 6K RAW recording at up to 60P when paired with compatible ATOMOS Ninja and Shogun devices. This addition provides further flexibility for high-quality RAW capture beyond the camera’s internal 6K 30P recording.
Enhanced Battery Support for EOS R5 C
Canon has introduced compatibility for its newly launched LP-E6P high-capacity battery in the EOS R5 C, unlocking the ability to record 8K RAW at 60P internally without needing an external power supply. This enhancement provides users with greater mobility for high-resolution shoots.
New Anamorphic De-Squeeze for EOS C400
The EOS C400 will support 1.5x anamorphic de-squeeze in addition to its existing options (2x, 1.8x, and 1.3x) for on-set monitoring. This addition caters to filmmakers using 1.5x anamorphic lenses, expanding creative possibilities and ensuring more accurate visual output on the LCD monitor or external displays.
Additional Benefits and Performance Enhancements
The firmware update delivers several other improvements for Canon users:
The XF605 will receive added sensitivity controls for the focus ring, plus joystick-controlled audio output volume adjustments on the audio status screen.
Lens distortion correction for the EOS C70, applied during playback, enhances real-time monitoring of footage.
Broader lens compatibility for RF lens support on the EOS R5 C, EOS C70, EOS C80, and EOS C400 ensures seamless integration with Canon’s latest RF lenses, meeting diverse shooting needs.
The comprehensive firmware rollout reflects Canon’s commitment to advancing functionality across its camera lineup, responding to professionals’ needs for streamlined workflows, advanced video features, and seamless integration with industry-standard tools. These updates further establish Canon’s Cinema EOS and professional cameras as versatile options for a wide array of high-performance filmmaking and video production demands.
