In a landmark consolidation within India's burgeoning aviation sector, Air India finalized its merger with Vistara on Tuesday. This newly formed entity, partially held by Singapore Airlines, will now cater to over 120,000 passengers daily, connecting more than 90 destinations across the globe.
The announcement of this much-anticipated merger back in November 2022 has come to fruition just six weeks following another integration within the Air India group, combining Air India Express and AIX Connect. Led by the Tata Group, the objective is clear: to create a 'world-class global aviation company with an Indian heart.'
The merger not only marks the end of Vistara which had been a joint venture between the Tatas and Singapore Airlines for nearly a decade, but also signifies the beginning of a new era for Air India, solidifying its place as the country's largest international airline and second-largest domestic operator.
