The Railway Board has launched an extensive safety drive in response to the recent Secunderabad-Shalimar express train derailment. A preliminary investigation positioned the cause as a technician accidentally activating a loose switch in the signalling system.
The switch, known as the 'latch gear,' was disturbed when the technician's lower body inadvertently hit it, causing the train's direction to shift and resulting in the derailment. A serious note has been taken by Dilip Kumar, the Executive Director of Information and Publicity for the Railway Board, who affirmed the initiation of a comprehensive safety drive across the railways.
Railway signal staff have been instructed to conduct extensive checks to secure latch gears and other signal parts. A report is expected within a week, following a series of preventive measures to enhance the operation and functionality of the signalling systems across various zones.
