Bullets Ground Flights: Airlines Halt Haiti Services Amid Escalating Violence
JetBlue extends its suspension of flights to Haiti until December due to safety concerns following gunfire incidents. A JetBlue aircraft returning from Port-au-Prince was found later to have been struck by a bullet, prompting extended cancellations. Spirit Airlines also experienced a similar incident, resulting in flight suspensions.
JetBlue Airways announced late Monday that it will continue its suspension of all flights to and from Haiti until December 2, after a bullet was discovered lodged in a plane returning from Port-au-Prince. Earlier, a Spirit Airlines flight was diverted to the Dominican Republic after being hit by gunfire.
Despite JetBlue Flight 935 successfully landing in New York on Monday without incident, the post-flight inspection revealed the alarming damage. JetBlue said it is working alongside authorities to investigate, attributing the extended service halt to Haiti's ongoing civil unrest.
Spirit Airlines reported damage to its aircraft after landing in Santiago, Dominican Republic. A flight attendant sustained injuries, while passengers remained unharmed. With growing safety concerns, the Federal Aviation Administration and the U.S. embassy reinforced the halt of flights to Port-au-Prince.
