Engine Trouble: Honda Faces Massive Investigation Over Defective Vehicles
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a probe into 1.4 million Honda vehicles following reports of engine issues linked to a manufacturing defect. This follows a November 2023 recall of 249,000 vehicles. The investigation aims to assess if additional vehicles should be recalled.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Monday that it has initiated an investigation into 1.4 million Honda vehicles amid concerns over severe engine issues.
The inquiry follows Honda's November 2023 recall of 249,000 vehicles in the United States, triggered by a manufacturing defect in the 3.5-liter V6 engine's crankshaft, potentially causing a premature wear and seizure of the connecting rod bearing.
NHTSA aims to determine if more vehicles should be included in the recall, having already received 173 reports of engine problems across various Honda and Acura models. Honda acknowledged awareness of the probe and committed to cooperating fully with the agency.
