NHTSA Probes Honda's Engine Issues: 1.4 Million Vehicles at Risk
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has initiated a probe into 1.4 million Honda vehicles due to serious engine issues. This follows a November 2023 recall of 249,000 vehicles with potential crankshaft defects that could lead to engine failure. The probe will assess if more vehicles need recall.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Monday an investigation into 1.4 million Honda vehicles following allegations of critical engine problems.
In November 2023, Honda recalled nearly 249,000 vehicles in the U.S. equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine. This recall was prompted by the discovery that a defect in the engine crankshaft could lead to the premature wear and seizure of the connecting rod bearing, possibly resulting in engine failure.
NHTSA has documented 173 reports of this problem affecting various Honda and Acura models from the 2016 to 2020 model years. The investigation aims to evaluate the extent of the defect and decide if additional vehicles not included in the initial 2023 recall require similar action.
