Air India Express, now under the Tata Group's ownership, is gearing up to reconfigure its airplanes to exclusively offer economy class seating starting April 2025. This strategic move comes as part of the airline's efforts to streamline operations and focus on narrow-body planes.
Following a recent merger with AIX Connect, Air India Express currently operates a fleet of 90 aircraft, including more than 30 with dual-class seating. The airline plans to increase its fleet to over 110 by fiscal year-end, with many planes being white-tail Boeing 737-8s initially intended for other airlines.
In line with Tata Group's consolidation of its airline business, Air India Express will concentrate on connecting Tier 2 and 3 cities with major metros and expanding its network to regional international destinations, including the Gulf, Middle East, and South East Asia.
