Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has set an ambitious target for Indian exports to reach USD 2 trillion by 2030. Addressing the 57th Convocation Ceremony at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Goyal underscored the necessity for an orchestrated effort from all stakeholders to accomplish this significant milestone.
Highlighting the anticipated achievement of USD 800 billion in exports for the current year, the Minister stressed the need for a planned approach to reach the USD 2 trillion mark. He urged businesses to explore specific sectors where India could enhance its global economic role. "It will not happen by chance," he emphasized, pointing to the necessity of collective choice and planning.
Additionally, Goyal highlighted the potential of India's free trade agreements to unlock new markets. He advocated for disseminating vital information about these agreements to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and traders to stimulate job creation and economic growth domestically. Tackling non-tariff barriers also stands as a crucial step, and Goyal called for concrete suggestions to aid upcoming trade negotiations.
