A recent study reveals that 89% of Indian businesses look to the UK as a favored international market. Despite recognizing the opportunities, these businesses face hurdles from the UK's stringent immigration and visa policies, which limit trade and investment initiatives.
Experts suggest that a self-sponsorship model is emerging as a viable solution. Developed by A Y & J Solicitors, this model allows foreign businesspeople to establish companies in sectors like IT and construction without traditional visa routes, which have been largely replaced as part of a broader immigration reform. Yash Dubal, the director, has facilitated over 140 such applications, emphasizing the system's importance for small investors.
Indian businesses also advocate for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the UK to enhance market opportunities. A Grant Thornton report noted that 92% of surveyed companies support the FTA. Currently, over 970 Indian firms operate in the UK, contributing to significant economic activity, though visa issues continue to hamper talent acquisition.
